AMR - Automated Meter Reading
AMR (automated meter reading) uses special meters that communicate with hardware installed at substations. With this equipment and technology, AMR records electricity use readings at member homes and businesses and transmits the data through the power lines to Singing River Electric’s Lucedale office. Bills are then generated from the meter readings.
Singing River Electric finished implementing AMR throughout its service territory in 2010 once all meters were changed out, all substations were equipped with the necessary hardware and readings from all meters were tested and verified.
With AMR, Singing River Electric has increased efficiency and accuracy in meter reading and can better assist members with tracking usage and recommending ways to reduce energy costs.
AMR is one piece of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) which has even greater capabilities involving the measurement and analysis of energy use through electric meters. These additional features will be considered by Singing River Electric in the future.
