Working to Protect Your Interest in the National Debate on Climate Change
(Scroll down for informative Climate Change links)
It is hard to escape the media coverage and the controversy surrounding
climate change and environmental policy. We all need to be good stewards of our natural resources. The question, however, is how do we balance concern for our environment and affordable power.
Our industry faces many significant challenges in the years ahead. We must have a reliable supply to meet an ever-growing demand. The reality is that supply is rapidly being matched by demand and many new sources of generation will have to be built.
Pressure is mounting in Congress to do something about climate change. Despite perceptions to the contrary, there is much uncertainty about the actual effect of human activity upon climate change. American power plants must be as environmentally sound as they are economical, but there needs to be much more discussion about current proposals that have the potential to double or triple your monthly electric bill while providing limited, if any, real benefits.
We pledge to do all we can to protect your interests, including providing as much information as possible in the coming months. We will be calling upon our elected officials to be leaders in framing the debate about these issues in realistic terms. We would ask all of you to stay informed.
