Crews restore power due to remnants of T.S. Fay (8-25-08 10:00 a.m.)
LUCEDALE, MS – Singing River Electric Power Association crews stood ready throughout the weekend to restore power outages due to Tropical Storm Fay.
"We were blessed in southeast Mississippi that the storm did not bring the rain or wind that was possible according to initial predictions," said general manager and CEO Lee Hedegaard.
Crews worked throughout the early morning hours Monday to restore power in Gautier and Ocean Springs. Two poles were down due to accidents with vehicles. Crews were on the scene immediately and began working to isolate the situation and restore power to the area.
“We currently have less than 30 members without power,” said Hedegaard. “These are sporadic outages caused by pockets of severe weather still rolling into our area.” Crews are responding quickly and restoration efforts are going smoothly.
Preparing for T.S. Fay
(8-22-08)
LUCEDALE, MS – Singing River Electric Power Association is taking necessary precautions for Tropical Storm Fay. We encourage our members to do the same.
"We are prepared to weather a 40-mile an hour storm much like our usual summer thunder storms, however the real concerns could be possible tornadoes, fallen trees and the unknown amount of rainfall," said general manager and CEO Lee Hedegaard.
The cooperative has placed all crews and personnel on stand-by and has made preparations by servicing vehicles and ensuring supplies and equipment are readily available at all offices.
Should Fay hit the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Singing River Electric crews will begin restorations as soon as conditions are safe. Contract crews are set for immediate action if necessary as are crews from across the state and nation. Every effort will be made to restore power as quickly as possible.
Members are reminded not to go near downed or hanging power lines. Use caution when operating stand-by generators. Members who require medical equipment using electricity or who have special needs should make alternate preparations.
