Singing River Electric to send crews to Houma, LA (9-12-08)

Singing River Electric crews will travel to South Louisiana Electric Cooperative Association (SLECA) in Houma on Sunday. Crews will arrive in Houma around noon following Hurricane Ike's landfall.

Twenty personnel and ten trucks will assist restoration efforts at SLECA.

"As an electric cooperative, we have a reciprocal agreement with electric cooperatives across the nation for help following a natural disaster," said Singing River Electric general manager and CEO Lee Hedegaard.

"Whether our co-op is on the receiving end or the giving end of this arrangement, our members benefit," said Hedegaard. Our Singing River Electric crews expand their experiences, build upon their skills and forge relationships with out-of-town crews. "These out-of-town crews are often the first in line to volunteer to come to south Mississippi when we need them, and manpower is absolutely necessary in order to restore power quickly."
